Common Tern Canvas Print, Diving Sea Bird on Blue Wall Art, Bird Photography Decor

This one took a lot of failed attempts. A tern does not circle politely and give you a second chance. It hangs, it tips, and it is gone into the water inside a second, and for most of that second it is a blur against nothing.

Printed and shipped from the US for US orders, and normally from Canada for Canadian orders and from Latvia, inside the EU, for European orders, so buyers in Canada and the EU should not pay customs fees.

What makes it worth the effort is what happens when it works. The bird is caught at the moment it commits, wings swept back and half folded, red bill down, the sun coming through the flight feathers so you can see the structure of each one. Behind it, nothing whatsoever. Plain deep blue from corner to corner.

That emptiness is not an accident of the day, it is the reason to shoot upwards. Photograph a bird against land and you get clutter competing with it. Photograph it against open sky and you get a clean shape on a flat colour field, which is why this reads as a modern graphic print rather than a nature photograph, and why it hangs somewhere a wildlife picture normally would not.

Common terns are ocean travellers that cross continents twice a year and can live past twenty, and they feed by doing exactly this, over and over, all day.

For a bathroom, a bedroom, a hallway, a child's room or an office, and especially good against white or pale walls where that blue does the work. A strong gift for birdwatchers, sailors and anyone who likes a print with one clean idea in it.
