African Fish Eagle Canvas Print, Bird of Prey Wall Art, Wildlife Portrait Photography

You have heard this bird. Every wildlife film, every documentary, every travel advert set anywhere south of the Sahara opens with that long ringing call thrown back over the shoulder, and this is the bird making it. Sound engineers drop it over footage of deserts and jungles where it has never lived, purely because audiences hear it and think Africa.

Printed and shipped from the US for US orders, and normally from Canada for Canadian orders and from Latvia, inside the EU, for European orders, so buyers in Canada and the EU should not pay customs fees.

If you think you recognise the face as well, you nearly do. White hood, dark body, hooked bill, the same build as the bald eagle on every American flagpole, and the two are close relatives. This one wears chestnut across the shoulders and a bare yellow face, and it hunts by dropping feet first onto fish at the surface of lakes and rivers, so a pair will hold the same stretch of shoreline for years.

The colour is the reason to buy it. White head and chest, black wings, chestnut shoulder, a yellow face, all of it set against a deep rust red wall. That combination is difficult to find in a print and it does something unusual: it will hang against warm terracotta or brick and look designed, and it will hang against grey or white and look like a splash of heat. Very few wildlife photographs are this useful to a decorator.

For living rooms, hallways, studies and offices, and a strong gift for birdwatchers, for anyone who has travelled in Africa, and for anyone who has ever stopped what they were doing because a bird was calling.
