Purple Seascape Canvas Print, Dusk Sky and Calm Water Wall Art, Aerial Landscape

The best colour of the day arrives after the sun has already gone. Most people pack up at sunset and miss it. For about twenty minutes afterwards the light comes from the sky itself rather than from the sun, and it turns plum, violet and grey in a way that no sunset ever does.

Printed and shipped from the US for US orders, and normally from Canada for Canadian orders and from Latvia, inside the EU, for European orders, so buyers in Canada and the EU should not pay customs fees.

This was taken in that window, from the air, looking out over still water towards low wooded headlands and islands. The cloud is doing all the work, heavy and layered and lit from underneath, and the water below has gone so flat that it hands the whole sky straight back. Land is reduced to a few dark bands between the two.

It is a difficult time to photograph. There is very little light left, everything has to be held steady for longer than feels sensible, and you get one attempt before it is gone. Which is part of why so few landscapes look like this.

Purple is also the rarest colour to find in art you can actually hang. Plenty of gold, plenty of blue, almost no violet. If a room has plum, aubergine, grey or charcoal anywhere in it, this ties the whole thing together, and against a plain white wall it reads as unexpectedly luxurious.

For a bedroom, a living room, a hallway or a dining room, and especially good in a room used in the evening rather than the morning.

Each canvas is signed by the photographer in the lower corner.
