Blue Winter Canvas Print, Minimalist Snow Field and Forest Wall Art, Nordic Landscape

An open snowfield running out to a treeline of spruce bent under snow, and above it a sky so flat and pale that the horizon almost gives up. Everything in the frame is one colour: lilac blue.

Printed and shipped from the US for US orders, and normally from Canada for Canadian orders and from Latvia, inside the EU, for European orders, so buyers in Canada and the EU should not pay customs fees.

This is the emptiest print in the collection and the quietest. No path, no figure, no horizon line worth the name. The bottom half is untouched snow, the top is cloud, and the only detail anywhere is the ragged band of trees holding the two apart. Hung on a wall it works the way a soft grey painting does, filling the space without asking anything of you.

The colour is real and it has a cause. Snow is a mirror with no colour of its own, so under a solid overcast it reflects the sky, and a winter sky at these latitudes is blue even when it looks white. Take the sun away and the snow turns the colour of the air above it, which is why a day like this reads lilac rather than white. Photographers call the rest of it flat light: with no shadows, depth collapses and distance stops being readable, which is exactly what has happened to the far edge of this field.

Landscape format. It belongs in a bedroom, a bathroom, a hallway or a study, anywhere you want the temperature of a room to drop a few degrees, and it sits beautifully next to pale wood or white walls.

Each canvas is signed by the photographer in the lower corner.
