Black Necked Swan Canvas Print, Swan and Koi Fish Wall Art, Bird Photography Decor

A black-necked swan on dark water, its head and neck jet black against a white body, a red knob swollen at the base of the pale blue bill, and beneath it koi turning slowly through the water in orange, cream and black.

Printed and shipped from the US for US orders, and normally from Canada for Canadian orders and from Latvia, inside the EU, for European orders, so buyers in Canada and the EU should not pay customs fees.

Two animals share the frame and neither is quite in the other's world. The swan sits on the surface, sharp and lit, while the fish move through the dark underneath it, half dissolved, one pale carp coming up close enough to show its eye. The water is almost black, which leaves only three colours in the picture: black, white and that band of orange running through the middle. It is the most graphic print in the collection and the least like a wildlife photograph.

The red knob is called a caruncle. It swells and deepens in colour through the breeding season and runs brighter on males, so it works as a signal rather than a feature. This is a South American bird, at home from Patagonia up through Chile and Argentina, and it is the most water-bound swan there is. Its legs are set so far back on the body that walking is a real struggle, so it stays afloat almost permanently, sleeps on the water, and carries its cygnets on its back rather than leading them ashore.

Landscape format. It suits a bathroom, hallway, bedroom, dining room or office, and it is a good gift for anyone who keeps koi, anyone who loves swans, and anyone who wants a print that is bold on colour without being loud.
