Details
Look at the snow in the foreground. No tyre tracks, no footprints, no ski lines, not even a dog. There is a road under there somewhere and nobody has been down it since the last fall.
Printed and shipped from the US for US orders, and normally from Canada for Canadian orders and from Latvia, inside the EU, for European orders, so buyers in Canada and the EU should not pay customs fees.
That is harder to find than it sounds. Most winter photographs are taken from somewhere people go, which means there is always a track, a fence, a post or a plough line in the frame giving it away. Here the drifts have smoothed everything over into one continuous surface, the spruces have taken their own load and closed in from both sides, and the road has become a gap between trees rather than a road.
It is printed tall, and the shape does real work. The eye starts on the bank of snow at the bottom, is pulled up the gap between the trees, and stops where the track disappears. That pull only happens in portrait format. Turn the same scene into a wide landscape and it becomes a view instead of an invitation.
Nothing in it is bright. Grey sky, blue white snow, dark green under the load. It is a cold print and it should be, and it hangs best somewhere with warmth around it, wood, brass, a rug, a lamp.
Printed large at 24 by 36 inches. Good on a tall narrow wall, in a stairwell, a hallway, a bedroom or a cabin, and a fine gift for skiers, walkers and anyone who would rather be somewhere with no one else in it.
Each canvas is signed by the photographer in the lower corner.
