Red-Winged Starling Canvas Print - African Bird Art

A female red-winged starling stands on a sandy ledge with a curled millipede held tight in her beak, her glossy blue-black body and chestnut wing feathers catching the light.

Printed and shipped from the US for US orders, and normally from Canada for Canadian orders and from Latvia, inside the EU, for European orders, so buyers in Canada and the EU should not pay customs fees.

Photographed in the African savannah, she pauses mid-stride as if showing off her catch, the millipede coiled into a neat ring. Her grey, finely streaked head, the flash of rufous in the wing and the soft, blurred background make it a portrait full of character.

About the bird: red-winged starlings live across eastern and southern Africa, often around rocks, cliffs and buildings. Males are glossy blue-black all over, while females like this one have grey heads, and both show bright chestnut wings in flight. They eat fruit and insects, and a millipede, known as a chongololo in parts of southern Africa, makes a fine meal.

Printed in landscape format and offered in the large 24 x 36 in size, it makes a talking point for a living room, study or office, and a memorable gift for birdwatchers and anyone who has travelled in Africa.
