African Elephant Canvas Print, Savanna Landscape Wall Art, Large Wildlife Photography

A bull elephant stands square to the camera on open green grassland, the dirt he has thrown still falling through the air past his shoulder, a track running away behind him into scrub and low trees, and a heavy sky stacked with cloud above all of it.

Printed and shipped from the US for US orders, and normally from Canada for Canadian orders and from Latvia, inside the EU, for European orders, so buyers in Canada and the EU should not pay customs fees.

This is the wide frame, taken from ground level, and it is the space around him that makes it. He stands dead centre with room on every side, so instead of a close portrait you get the whole animal against the whole country: bare feet on worn earth, deep creases down the legs, ears held loose and open, and a plain running away to the hills behind. The sky does half the work. Without that broken cloud it would be a picture of an elephant, and with it the animal has weather to stand under.

Look at the tusks. One is short and blunt while the other is barely there, and that is not damage by accident. Elephants favour one side the way people are left or right handed, and the tusk on the working side does the digging, the levering and the stripping of bark. It wears down and often breaks, year after year, so an older bull's tusks tell you which side he has used his whole life.

Landscape format, printed large at 24 by 36 inches, which is the size this frame needs. It is meant to be the single piece on a wall in a living room, hallway, study or office, and it makes a serious gift for anyone who loves elephants or has been on safari.

Each canvas is signed by the photographer in the lower corner.
