Swan Canvas Print, Whooper Swan Portrait Wall Art, Elegant White Bird Photography

A whooper swan head on and close, filling the frame from the top of the skull to the black tip of the bill, with the big yellow wedge running forward down each side, dark eyes set into white, and the water behind it almost black.

Printed and shipped from the US for US orders, and normally from Canada for Canadian orders and from Latvia, inside the EU, for European orders, so buyers in Canada and the EU should not pay customs fees.

Taken straight on, which is how you see a swan when it decides to come and look at you. The white is soft and full of fine feather detail rather than a flat block, the yellow is the only colour in the frame, and the dark water behind gives it all somewhere to sit. Printed in portrait format, so it works on a narrow wall or beside a door where a landscape print will not fit.

About the whooper swan: that bill is the identification. The yellow runs forward in a long wedge and comes to a point past the nostril, where its smaller cousin the Bewick's swan has a short rounded blob of yellow instead. No two birds carry exactly the same pattern, which is how researchers tell individuals apart without ringing them. It is a loud bird, unlike the mute swan it calls in flight with a deep bugling note that carries for miles, pairs answer each other back and forth, and they stay together for life. It is the national bird of Finland.

Its whites and blacks suit a bedroom, living room, hallway, bathroom or office, and it makes a lovely gift for birdwatchers, for anyone who feeds the swans on their local water, and for a wedding or anniversary, given how swans pair.
