Elephant Canvas Print, Two African Elephants Wall Art, Sepia Toned Wildlife Photography

Two female African elephants standing shoulder to shoulder on the savannah, heads close, trunks hanging down side by side, short tusks pale against the deep folds of their skin, in soft faded sepia.

Printed and shipped from the US for US orders, and normally from Canada for Canadian orders and from Latvia, inside the EU, for European orders, so buyers in Canada and the EU should not pay customs fees.

The colour has been pulled almost all the way out, and what is left is texture. Nothing in the frame competes: no sky, no horizon, no bright grass, only two enormous heads filling the width of the picture and the grain of the hide running across both of them. It is the gentlest print in the collection, and the closeness of the two animals is the whole subject.

That closeness is not coincidence. Elephant society is female. A herd is a family of related cows held together by the oldest of them, and the daughters stay with their mother for life, so two adult females standing this close have almost certainly known each other since one of them was born. Bulls leave in their teens and live alone or in loose company. Elephants also touch constantly, trunk to mouth, trunk to face, shoulder against shoulder, and that contact does the work that talking does for us.

Landscape format, printed large at 24 by 36 inches. Its warm neutral tones suit a living room, bedroom, hallway or nursery, and it makes a lovely gift for anyone who loves elephants, and for mothers and daughters in particular.

Each canvas is signed by the photographer in the lower corner.
