Crashing Wave Canvas Print, Storm Sea and Orange Rock Wall Art, Coastal Photography

The orange on that rock is alive, and it is drawing you a map.

Printed and shipped from the US for US orders, and normally from Canada for Canadian orders and from Latvia, inside the EU, for European orders, so buyers in Canada and the EU should not pay customs fees.

Sea rocks wear bands, and the bright orange band is lichen. It cannot survive being submerged, so it only grows above the waterline, and it cannot survive drying out entirely either, so it only grows where the spray reaches. That narrow strip of colour marks, to within a few centimetres, exactly how far the sea throws itself in an average storm. It takes decades to establish and grows a fraction of a millimetre a year, which means the rock in this picture has been taking this beating, at this height, for longer than any of us have been alive.

And here comes the sea to prove it. A grey wave has hit and gone straight up, tearing into white spray across the whole top of the frame, with the horizon lost behind it and dark water heaving beyond. The rock is not moving.

That contrast is why this one works on a wall: violence in the top half, stubbornness in the bottom, and one hot colour in an otherwise grey picture. It holds a room in a way a pretty blue sea never does.

For a living room, a hallway, a study or an office, and best against white, grey or dark paint where the orange has room to do its job.
