Granite Coast Canvas Print, Calm Sea and Rocks Wall Art, Coastal Landscape Photography

Everyone photographs the sea. Almost nobody photographs the rock you sit on to look at it, which is the part you actually remember.

Printed and shipped from the US for US orders, and normally from Canada for Canadian orders and from Latvia, inside the EU, for European orders, so buyers in Canada and the EU should not pay customs fees.

Great rounded slabs of granite step down towards flat blue water, worn smooth, patched with pale lichen, warm to sit on by the afternoon. The sea is doing nothing whatsoever. There is a bank of cloud away on the right and a horizon with nothing on it.

That is why this one has weight where a wave picture has noise. Storm photographs are exciting for about a week and then they are loud furniture. A quiet shore keeps working, because it is the feeling most people are actually buying when they buy a coast: having got somewhere, sat down, and stopped.

The rock deserves its share of the frame too. Granite like this was ground round by ice rather than worn by the sea, and it has been sitting in the same position since the ice left. The lichen on it grows a fraction of a millimetre a year, so those pale patches have been there longer than the house you will hang this in.

For a living room, a bedroom, a hallway, a bathroom or a summer house. A good gift for anyone who swims from rocks, anyone with a place by the water, and anyone who needs reminding to go and sit somewhere.
