Scarlet Ibis Canvas Print, Minimalist Red Bird Wall Art, Square Bird Photography

Most walls do not need another landscape. They need one thing in the room that is not beige.

Printed and shipped from the US for US orders, and normally from Canada for Canadian orders and from Latvia, inside the EU, for European orders, so buyers in Canada and the EU should not pay customs fees.

This is that one thing. A single strong colour against an empty cream ground, which is the only way an accent actually works: one object carrying all the heat, with everything around it left alone. Put it on a pale wall, above a desk, at the end of a hallway, over a sideboard, and the room reorganises itself around it. Two would be too many. One is exactly right.

The bird earns the colour. Scarlet ibises are born grey and brown and spend two years turning red, and they only do it on the right food, so the shade a bird carries is the record of how well it has fed. In Trinidad, where it is protected, people take boats out into the Caroni Swamp at dusk purely to watch them come in to roost, thousands of them dropping into the mangroves until the trees are red. It is one of the few birds anywhere that draws a crowd just for the colour of it.

This is the square frame from that session, the quiet one, a single bird and a lot of empty space. The other frame in the shop shows the whole bird walking through grass, if you would rather have the wild version.

A good gift for someone whose house is full of neutrals, for birdwatchers, and for anyone who has been to the Caribbean and misses it.

Square format, which is the easiest shape to place: on its own on a narrow wall, or as the one piece of colour in a row of black and white prints.
