Canada Geese Canvas Print, Autumn Migration Wall Art, Moody Landscape Photography

A straggling line of Canada geese crossing a low grey sky above a wooded hill, dark conifers along the ridge and birch and aspen turning gold and rust below them, with one small house tucked into the trees.

Printed and shipped from the US for US orders, and normally from Canada for Canadian orders and from Latvia, inside the EU, for European orders, so buyers in Canada and the EU should not pay customs fees.

The birds are silhouettes, and that is the point. There is no detail to look at and no colour on them at all, just seventeen dark shapes strung out across a ceiling of cloud, which is exactly how you see geese going over. Everything warm in the picture is down in the trees, everything cold is above the ridge, and the line of birds runs along the seam between the two. It is a landscape with a departure in it rather than a bird photograph.

The formation is worth a second look. Geese fly in a V because each bird sits in the upwash thrown off the wingtip of the one ahead, which gives it lift for free and can cut the work of flying by a useful margin. A loose ragged line like this one is a flock that has not settled into it yet, or has no need to, because the distance is short. The trigger to go is not the cold, it is the shortening day.

Landscape format, printed large at 24 by 36 inches. Its greys and golds suit a living room, hallway, study or bedroom, and it makes a thoughtful gift for birdwatchers and anyone who marks the turn of the year by what flies over.
