Surreal Landscape Canvas Print, Purple and Green Sunset Wall Art, Moody Coastal Art

There are ten thousand orange sunsets for sale tonight. This is not one of them.

Printed and shipped from the US for US orders, and normally from Canada for Canadian orders and from Latvia, inside the EU, for European orders, so buyers in Canada and the EU should not pay customs fees.

The colour here is a decision, not the weather. The photograph was taken over water at the end of the day and then worked deliberately away from what the eye saw, the sky pushed to mauve and plum, the sun and its long path across the water left burning green, the headlands dropped almost to black. Nobody has ever stood on a shore and seen this. That is the point of it. Photographers have been doing this since long before software, in the darkroom with filters and toners, and the reason is always the same: sometimes the truth of a place is not the same thing as the colours it happened to be wearing.

What you get is a landscape that behaves like a painting. From across a room it reads as bands of colour and one bright point, and it carries a wall the way an abstract does, which is a different job from a photograph you walk up to and examine.

It wants a strong setting. Dark or deep painted walls, grey, ink blue, forest green, or a room with black metal and dark wood in it. It will look wrong above a pine sideboard and remarkable above a dark sofa.

For anyone who likes their landscapes strange, anyone furnishing a room that is already bold, and anyone who has been told one too many times that their taste is unusual.

Four sizes, from a small square to a large statement piece.

Each canvas is signed by the photographer in the lower corner.
