Barn Owl Canvas Print, Heart Shaped Owl Face Wall Art, Large Bird Photography

Be warned: this one watches the room. Hang it opposite a sofa and it will find you wherever you sit, which is either exactly what you want from a picture or exactly what you do not.

Printed and shipped from the US for US orders, and normally from Canada for Canadian orders and from Latvia, inside the EU, for European orders, so buyers in Canada and the EU should not pay customs fees.

The reason it does that is anatomy. Almost every bird has an eye on each side of its head and sees two separate worlds. An owl does not. Both eyes face forward, side by side in a flat disc, which gives it the depth perception a night hunter needs and gives us something we read instinctively as a face rather than a beak. It is the whole reason owls have followed people around in art and story for thousands of years while other birds have not.

There is a price for those eyes. They are so large that they are not round at all but tube shaped, locked into the skull, and an owl cannot swivel them in the slightest. To look at anything it has to move its entire head, which is why it turns so far and why every movement it makes looks so deliberate.

Here that stare is the picture. Gold speckled feathers across the crown, the white heart of the face outlined in a fine dark line, and two black eyes with nothing behind them but a soft lilac wall. Warm against cool, and no clutter anywhere.

Available up to 24 by 36 inches, where it becomes a genuine presence rather than a decoration. For a living room, a study, a hallway, a bedroom or a child's room, and one of the best gifts there is for anyone who loves owls.

Each canvas is signed by the photographer in the lower corner.
