Swan and Geese Canvas Print, Migration Flock Wall Art, Teal Toned Bird Photography

A whooper swan stands in the middle of a grazing flock of Canada geese with both wings held wide open and its neck stretched straight up, bill closed. The geese carry on feeding.

Printed and shipped from the US for US orders, and normally from Canada for Canadian orders and from Latvia, inside the EU, for European orders, so buyers in Canada and the EU should not pay customs fees.

The frame is pulled back far enough to show what is really going on: two dozen birds spread across a rough autumn field, all heads down, and one white bird standing at full height and full width in the middle of them. The colour is pushed cold on purpose. The grass drops to olive and brown, the geese pick up a hard teal along the neck and flank, and the swan stays the only clean white thing in the picture. It reads less like a wildlife photograph and more like a painted one.

The open wings are what give the picture its scale. A whooper swan spans well over two metres wingtip to wingtip, close to double a Canada goose, so the moment it opens up it stops being one bird in a flock and takes the whole middle of the field. That is the size difference you are looking at, and it is why nothing around it argues.

This is a staging field, the kind of ground migrating flocks drop into for days at a time to feed hard before the next leg. Whooper swans and Canada geese mix freely on a stop like this without much interest in each other, and a swan family stays together through the entire journey, sometimes thousands of kilometres.

Landscape format. It suits a hallway, dining room, living room or study, and it works especially well in a room with green, teal or dark wood in it, where the colour treatment stops being a tint and starts looking deliberate.
