Details
For three hundred years, if you owned something magnificent you had it painted standing sideways: the racehorse, the prize bull, the duke with his hand on his hip. Full length, side on, every proportion visible, nothing cropped away. That is the oldest and most flattering way to photograph an animal, and it is the one almost nobody bothers with any more.
Printed and shipped from the US for US orders, and normally from Canada for Canadian orders and from Latvia, inside the EU, for European orders, so buyers in Canada and the EU should not pay customs fees.
Close-up wildlife photographs are everywhere because they are easier and they hit harder. What they never give you is the shape of the animal. Here you get all of it at once, standing square in the grass under a piled up sky, the slope of the back, the weight coming down through the legs, the trunk hanging to the ground, the tusks short and worn, and the dome of the head that tells you at a glance this is African and not Asian.
Printed in portrait format, which is the whole point. A standing animal in an upright frame reads as a portrait rather than a scene, so it works where a wide landscape will not: a chimney breast, the wall at the end of a corridor, a narrow gap between two windows, the space above a chest of drawers.
For a living room, a study, a hallway or a child's room, and a proper gift for anyone who has been on safari, anyone who collects animal art, or anyone whose favourite animal has been an elephant since they were five.
Each canvas is signed by the photographer in the lower corner.
