Elephant Trunk Canvas Print, Wildlife Wall Art, Large African Elephant Photography

No other animal on earth has one of these. A trunk is a nose and a hand at the same time, it has no bone in it anywhere, and it is worked by something in the order of forty thousand separate muscles. A human arm has about six hundred.

Printed and shipped from the US for US orders, and normally from Canada for Canadian orders and from Latvia, inside the EU, for European orders, so buyers in Canada and the EU should not pay customs fees.

That is what it buys you: the same limb can push over a tree and pick up a single seed pod, siphon eight or nine litres of water, reach over a fence, greet another animal, or put a calf back on its feet. An elephant calf spends most of its first year failing to control it, the way a toddler fails to control its hands.

And it smells better than any nose on land. Elephants carry more genes for smell than any other mammal, including dogs, and can pick up water at a distance measured in kilometres. When you see the tip lift and roll like this, the animal is reading the air.

The photograph puts all of that at the front: the trunk curling down through the frame, the deep cross hatching of the skin, one short tusk, the eye set back, ears held loose, green scrub behind and a soft cloudy sky.

Printed large at 24 by 36 inches. For a living room, a study, a hallway or an office, and a serious gift for anyone who loves elephants, which is most people.

Each canvas is signed by the photographer in the lower corner.
