King Vulture Canvas Print, Colorful Tropical Bird Wall Art, Exotic Bird Photography

A king vulture turns its head down and to the side, showing the whole of that bare face: an orange wattle folded over a red bill, purple and crimson skin, a soft grey ruff around the neck, and a cream white body edged with black.

Printed and shipped from the US for US orders, and normally from Canada for Canadian orders and from Latvia, inside the EU, for European orders, so buyers in Canada and the EU should not pay customs fees.

The background is thrown right out of focus into soft green, so there is nothing to look at but the bird. Every colour it has is in the head, and against the plain white body they look painted on. The feathers of the ruff are sharp enough to see one by one.

About the king vulture: it lives in lowland forest from southern Mexico down to northern Argentina, and it is the largest of the New World vultures apart from the condors. The head is bare for a practical reason, nothing sticks to skin the way it would to feathers. It has a poor sense of smell, so it watches the smaller turkey vultures find a carcass and then comes down on top of them. Its size and heavier bill let it open a hide they cannot, and the smaller birds feed on what it leaves, which is very likely where the name came from.

Printed in landscape format, its whites and reds suit a living room, study, hallway or office, and it makes a striking gift for birdwatchers, zoo keepers and anyone who likes an unusual bird on the wall.
