Calm Sea Canvas Print, Forested Headland and Blue Water Wall Art, Coastal Landscape Photo

A forested headland rising straight out of flat blue water, a second lower point behind it, low hills fading away along the horizon, and above all of it a sky full of small rippled clouds running in rows.

Printed and shipped from the US for US orders, and normally from Canada for Canadian orders and from Latvia, inside the EU, for European orders, so buyers in Canada and the EU should not pay customs fees.

The water takes up almost half the frame and does nothing at all, barely a ripple, which is what gives the print its stillness. The land is a single dark shape, conifers along the crest and bare branches lower down, and there is no boat, no building and no path anywhere in it. It is a picture with nothing happening in it, deliberately, and that is why it works on a wall you look at every day.

The sky is the part worth knowing about. Cloud that breaks into small regular cells in rows like this is a mackerel sky, and it forms where a layer of air is turning over gently at height. Sailors read it as a warning rather than a pleasure: mackerel sky and mares' tails make tall ships carry low sails, because that pattern usually arrives a day or so ahead of a front. The water is flat here, but the weather is already on its way.

Landscape format. Its blues suit a bedroom, living room, bathroom, hallway or holiday house, and it makes a calm gift for anyone who would rather look at water than anything else.
