Hooded Vulture Canvas Print, Funny Bird Stare Wall Art, African Bird Photography

Put this one where people will catch it out of the corner of their eye. It has the expression of somebody who has been waiting at a counter for twenty minutes and has decided to say nothing about it.

Printed and shipped from the US for US orders, and normally from Canada for Canadian orders and from Latvia, inside the EU, for European orders, so buyers in Canada and the EU should not pay customs fees.

Head on, shoulders hunched, brown feathers ruffled up around a bare pink and lilac face, pale bill, and two dark eyes aimed directly at the camera. The background is thrown into soft orange and green so there is nothing to look at but the stare. It is funny without being a joke, which is a hard thing to find in wildlife photography and the reason this one works in an office.

The expression is not far off the truth, either. The hooded vulture is the small one. It turns up first at a carcass, gets shoved aside by everything bigger, and waits. It survives on scraps, insects and whatever it can clean up around towns and abattoirs, and it does that work for free across half a continent.

It is also in serious trouble. The population has fallen by more than eighty percent in living memory, mostly through poisoning, and the species is now listed as critically endangered. The grumpy bird is one of the rarer things you could hang on a wall.

For an office, a study, a hallway, a kitchen or a downstairs loo, which is where prints like this genuinely belong. A good gift for anyone with dry humour, birdwatchers, and anyone who works in customer service.

Each canvas is signed by the photographer in the lower corner.
