Scarlet Ibis Canvas Print, Red Tropical Bird Wall Art, Exotic Bird Photography Decor

A scarlet ibis strides through long green grass in profile, its long black bill curving down to a fine point, the whole body a flat brilliant red from the crown to the trailing leg.

Printed and shipped from the US for US orders, and normally from Canada for Canadian orders and from Latvia, inside the EU, for European orders, so buyers in Canada and the EU should not pay customs fees.

The picture runs on one thing, red against green. They sit opposite each other on the colour wheel, which is why the bird lifts off the background as hard as it does, and why the print carries across a room. The grass is soft and slightly out of focus, the bird is sharp, and the pale ring of the eye and the fine line of skin along the bill are both clear.

About the scarlet ibis: it is not born that colour. Chicks come out grey and brown and only turn red over about two years, because the pigment is not theirs, it is carotenoid taken from the small crabs and shrimp they eat, the same way flamingos earn their pink. A captive bird has to be fed the right diet or it fades. The long curved bill is a probe, worked by feel through soft mud rather than by sight. It is the national bird of Trinidad and Tobago.

Printed in landscape format, the red suits a living room, dining room, hallway or office, especially against a pale or dark wall, and it makes a bold gift for birdwatchers and anyone who likes colour on their walls.
