Black Headed Gull Canvas Print, Seagull in Flight Over Blue Water Wall Art, Coastal Bird Art

A black-headed gull glides away low over the water with both wings held out straight, its pale grey back and white tail lit from the side, and the sea behind it blurred into soft blue.

Printed and shipped from the US for US orders, and normally from Canada for Canadian orders and from Latvia, inside the EU, for European orders, so buyers in Canada and the EU should not pay customs fees.

This is a quiet, almost abstract picture. Two colours, white and blue, one bird, and nothing else in the frame. The water is soft because the bird was moving and the camera followed it, which is what gives the sense of speed without freezing everything solid. It hangs well in a room where you want calm rather than drama.

About the black-headed gull: the name is a small lie. The hood is chocolate brown, not black, it stops at the back of the head rather than covering it, and the bird only wears it through the breeding season. For most of the year all that is left is a dark smudge behind the eye. It is also far less of a sea bird than people expect, and nests happily on inland lakes and marshes, which is why you meet it on a city pond as often as on a shore.

Printed in landscape format, its pale blues suit a bedroom, bathroom, hallway, beach house or office, and it makes a good gift for birdwatchers and anyone who loves the coast.
