Tallbergsbroarna Aerial Canvas Print, Sepia Forest Bridge Wall Art, Sweden Photo

From the ground a bridge is engineering. From the air it is an argument about how small we are.

Printed and shipped from the US for US orders, and normally from Canada for Canadian orders and from Latvia, inside the EU, for European orders, so buyers in Canada and the EU should not pay customs fees.

Forest runs to the horizon in every direction, frosted, unbroken, with no road, no field, no roof, no fence. Through the middle of it a river has cut a dark gorge, and across the gorge somebody has laid one thin line of steel lattice on two legs. That is the whole picture. The bridge is the only made thing in a hundred square kilometres of trees and it looks like a scratch on the landscape.

This is the 1891 bridge at Tallbergsbroarna over the Öre river, 164 metres long and 37 metres above the water, built for the main line through upper Norrland when this was the very edge of the map. Seeing the country around it is the best explanation there is of why it was hard.

The sepia is deliberate. A cold aerial of a steel bridge in full colour would be grey on grey, and warming it into brown gives it the feel of an archive photograph, which suits a structure of this age. It also makes it much easier to hang, because it will sit against cream, wood, brick and dark paint without introducing a colour to the room.

For a study, an office, a hallway or a stairwell. A gift for engineers, railway people, pilots and drone flyers, and for anyone from this part of Sweden who has looked up at that bridge from the water.
