Tallberg Concrete Bridge Canvas Print, Arch Bridge Wall Art, Sweden Winter Photo

When this arch was finished in 1919 it held a world record. No concrete railway bridge anywhere spanned further in a single leap, and it was built across a gorge in northern Sweden by men who had no machines worth the name.

Printed and shipped from the US for US orders, and normally from Canada for Canadian orders and from Latvia, inside the EU, for European orders, so buyers in Canada and the EU should not pay customs fees.

It is one clean curve. Four arches carry the deck across the Öre river, the largest of them ninety metres wide, and there is nothing decorative on it anywhere. Where the iron bridge next door is all lace, rivets and diagonals, this is a single line doing the same work, and standing in front of the two of them is the quickest lesson in the history of building you will ever get.

The trains left in 1994, when a newer bridge went up thirty metres downstream, and you can see it here behind the arch. The concrete one has been a protected national monument since 1997, which is to say it is now a museum piece that happens to weigh several thousand tonnes.

Photographed in winter, which suits it. Snow dusted spruce down both banks, bare grey concrete, black water running below, and a low flat sky. No colour to speak of and none needed.

For a study, an office, a hallway or a workshop, and against brick, concrete, metal or dark paint. A proper gift for engineers, architects, railway people, anyone from Västerbotten, and anyone who stops to look at how things are built.

Each canvas is signed by the photographer in the lower corner.
