Whooper Swan Canvas Print, Swan and Canada Geese Wall Art, Funny Bird Photography

A whooper swan stands in a grass field with its neck up and both wings swung forward, cupped in front of it, surrounded on every side by Canada geese that carry on grazing and pay it no attention at all, with one grey cygnet tucked in beside it.

Printed and shipped from the US for US orders, and normally from Canada for Canadian orders and from Latvia, inside the EU, for European orders, so buyers in Canada and the EU should not pay customs fees.

It is a funny picture and a good one. The swan is brilliant white against dull autumn grass and dark geese, so it stands out as if it were lit. The wings are thrown forward rather than out to the sides, so the long primary feathers sweep towards you and the near wing is caught almost edge on, every feather separate and sharp. The yellow and black bill is clear enough to name the species from across the room.

About what is happening: the swan is not taking off. Bringing the wings forward like that closes the space in front of the bird and makes it look far bigger head on than it really is, which is the plainest way of telling a crowd of geese to move. It tends to work, because a whooper outweighs a Canada goose and has the reach to back it up. The grey bird beside it is a cygnet from that year, still grey rather than white, and still travelling with its parents, since young swans stay with the family through their first winter and migrate with them.

Printed in landscape format, it suits a kitchen, dining room, hallway, living room or office, and it makes a warm and slightly funny gift for birdwatchers, wildfowl people and anyone who likes a picture with a story in it.
